Bobby Petrino Jumps Ship

As many of you already know, "new" Falcons coach Bobby Petrino left the team yesterday for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Petrino left a four-sentence note to his players notifying them of his decision, choosing not to tell them in person. Owner Arthur Blank has also acknowledged that the University of Arkansas never contacted the team about Petrino.

The manner in which he left comes as no surprise to me, as I have never liked the man and opposed his hiring. His background of installing a gimmicky offense at Louisville, and thereby dominating a mediocre conference, hardly qualifies him for NFL success. As a Falcon fan, I am glad to see him go. However, it's yet another sign that the Falcons are about to enter a serious rebuilding phase, one that will probably take 2-4 years. I just hope we can land a serious coach, such as former Pittsburgh head man Bill Cowher.
